Product-Market Fit and Pivoting

There are three kinds of fit that shape the success or failure of a start-up: (1) problem-solution, (2) product-market, and (3) business model fittings. In practice, they are all either ill-defined or often used interchangeably. Accomplishing these three fits requires founders not to fall in love with the original idea and often change mindset to allow pivoting where necessary. Such an iterative process necessitates perspective of an outsider that continuously challenge the founders.

Point Shot Networking

For entrepreneurs, networking is not a fun activity but is a business development channel to extend one’s opportunity space. However, striking a balance is tricky. Most networking attempts are not targeted, and it takes too much of the valuable time of a start-up. Hence, many entrepreneurs need expertise that strengthen networking muscles.

Investment Readiness

Post-seed and Series-A rounds happen behind closed doors, unlike seed-stage investments where the hype is trackable and observable. Strong linkages to the investment managers, timely knowledge spill-over and readiness on various dimensions are crucial. Investors look for opportunities where founders have achieved all their fits and are ready to scale both personally and organizationally. Engaging an experienced advisor(s) to guide the team shall enhance the probability of securing new investment rounds.
